The published Austin census contains 67 consumer-facing home-service brands as of July 26, 2026. The underlying intake holds 75 records. The difference is deliberate: historical brands, excluded candidates and unpublished candidates remain available for inspection without entering the published denominator.

Use the 67-brand panel when reproducing a published brand count. Use the complete source package when investigating an inclusion decision, a transaction or an unresolved owner. Keep the record identifier through every join.

Method & limits

Ownership facts retain the July 26, 2026 cutoff. On October 21, the CSV and JSON inclusion sets were reconciled and the published panel was normalized. No ownership re-verification is implied. This is the Austin edition of the planned Texas series.

Choose the file that matches the question

The panel CSV is a normalized projection of the historical dataset. It removes the byte-order mark from the identifier header and selects published_active rows; it does not refresh ownership facts. The original CSV and JSON remain available below.

The complete JSON includes brands, entities, relationships, transactions, evidence, footprints, conflicts and unresolved items. Those records let a reader inspect why an ownership chain was included rather than relying on a single owner label.

Account for all 75 intake records

The source reconciles to 67 published_active records, three historical_not_denominator records, two candidate_not_published records and three excluded records. Keep those statuses when extending the work. Moving a candidate into the panel is a research decision that needs its own source and date.

Join observations through brand_id

For a crawler or AI-answer study, keep brand_id, brand_name and snapshot_date beside the new observation. A hostname can redirect, a franchise can share a national website, and a platform can operate several brands. None is a substitute for the brand identifier.

Store ownership_snapshot_date and observed_at in different fields. An October HTTP fetch joined to a July owner classification remains an October observation grouped by historical ownership. It is not an October ownership census.

What the dataset measures

The unit is a consumer-facing brand. The panel does not measure market share, number of trucks, revenue, job quality or all contractors in Austin. Separate franchise systems, local operators and ultimate owners when the evidence supports doing so.

A rating concerns support for the recorded chain. It does not certify the company, its service or its present ownership. The ownership guide explains the next checks for a current question.

For a new company, use the public-record ownership method. The Texas research map connects this census to the infrastructure studies.
