UT Austin campus map: plan your route

Find your building, check the entrance and test the complete route from West Campus.

Open the UT Austin campus map from the university’s wayfinding page. It links to the interactive map, building information, parking and construction resources. Find your destination building first, then check the entrance and the route you will actually use.

A campus map answers a different question from a West Campus apartment map. One locates university destinations; the other helps compare places to live. Connect the two with an actual trip rather than assuming that a neighborhood label establishes a walk to class.

Method & limits

Official UT wayfinding and campus-map guidance checked October 26, 2026. This is a route-planning guide, not a live construction, elevator-status or walking-time feed.

Choose the map for the decision

UT’s wayfinding guide describes map layers for accessible entrances, parking, elevators and construction disruptions. Its building-information resource connects building names and abbreviations with addresses and nearby visitor parking. Use those tools together when a course schedule gives you a code rather than a familiar destination.

Start with the official campus map for a university building. For an apartment shortlist, the maintained housing directory and housing map address the surrounding residential search.

Editorial decision table based on UT’s wayfinding resources. No route time, vacancy or accessible-path condition is inferred from a pin.

Resolve the building before the room

Copy the building abbreviation and room number separately from the current course or appointment record. Search the building first; then verify the room with the department, syllabus or appointment instructions. A matching street address does not tell you which interior room a class uses.

For a first visit, save the full building name alongside the code. If two destinations have similar names, compare the official address before starting. This is especially useful when an appointment, interview or class is somewhere other than the part of campus you know.

Plan the entrance and access sequence

The entrance nearest a map pin may not be the entrance you need. Review the relevant accessibility layers, the approach from the street, the elevator connection and the final room location. If a required segment is uncertain, ask the destination office for directions before the visit.

UT also links construction advisories from its wayfinding page. Check those near the trip, particularly when a familiar path is being changed. A saved screenshot is useful for orientation, but it does not establish that today’s entrance, path or elevator is available.

Test the West Campus trip as a complete route

When comparing apartments, begin at the door you would use and end at the entrance serving the class. Include street crossings and the trip from the campus edge to the building. An advertised distance to UT leaves those choices unresolved.

For your own timing check, record the day, departure time, route and destination. Repeat for an early class and a later return if both matter to your schedule. Keep the observation tied to those conditions; do not turn one trial into a universal commute time for the property.

If McCombs is the destination, use the off-campus housing and commute comparison to keep CBA and Rowling Hall distinct and test a rent premium against the week you would actually travel.

Separate a destination from a parking right

Finding a nearby garage does not establish permission, price or overnight storage. Check the current parking rules for the exact facility, day and event. The UT parking guide helps distinguish a commuter permit from residence-hall parking and overnight needs.

Save the destination name and a backup route before a time-sensitive visit. If you change course sections or the university changes an assigned location, update the trip as well. The useful map is the one connected to your current schedule, access needs and actual starting point.
