UT Austin transcript: choose the right record
An academic summary, a UT transcript and a previous school’s record solve different requests. Choose before paying.

For an official UT Austin transcript, start with Texas One Stop’s ordering instructions. The published fee is $20 per copy. If you only need a course list for an informal request, check whether the recipient accepts the university’s academic summary instead.
The label “unofficial transcript” can be misleading. One Stop’s page called “Unofficial Previous School Transcripts” concerns records from other institutions submitted to UT. It is not the same document as your UT academic summary.
Method & limits
Texas One Stop and UT Admissions record instructions checked October 26, 2026. Fees and delivery conditions are the published university instructions; the recipient determines which document it accepts.
Choose the record before the delivery method
One Stop describes the academic summary as a course list with identifying and academic information. It lacks the university seal and registrar’s signature and does not confirm degrees. An official transcript provides the broader academic record, including UT coursework, GPA, recorded transfer work and degrees.
Ask the recipient for the required document and whether you may upload it yourself or it must arrive directly from UT. Keep the exact request. “Send a transcript” is not enough detail to choose the right purchase and delivery route.
| Need | Document to check | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Official UT academic record | Official UT transcript | Choose the recipient’s accepted delivery method |
| Course list for an informal request | Academic summary | Recipient must accept it; it does not verify a degree |
| Proof of attendance or degree | Enrollment certification | A separate records service |
| A copy of another school’s record held by UT | Unofficial previous-school transcript | Not a new official transcript from that school |

Choose PDF, institutional delivery or mail
The ordering guide lists mailed delivery, an electronic option to eligible institutions through SPEEDE, and PDF delivery. A PDF order goes through a separate payment system rather than What I Owe. Its recipient receives the official document through the delivery service, with access instructions.
Verify the destination address and accepted format before paying. A personal copy downloaded for your files may not meet an instruction requiring direct delivery. If the intended organization is not available in an institutional-delivery list, use an accepted alternative rather than selecting a similarly named recipient.
Check whether the record is complete yet
Before an immediate order, review the grades and degree information that need to appear. One Stop offers Hold for Grades and Hold for Degree choices. Those serve a different purpose from sending the record as it stands today.
For example, an application asking for a conferred degree is not necessarily satisfied by a transcript ordered immediately after the last exam. Identify the required record state first. For a deadline, also distinguish the date you submit an order from the date the recipient can access the completed document.
Review the paid order rather than placing another
One Stop cautions that paid orders cannot be revised or canceled through the normal ordering flow and refund requests may not be accepted. Check the name, recipient, format and hold option before the final payment step.
If delivery appears missing, use the order status and the recipient’s instructions to identify the problem. A PDF access email, an unpaid order and a mailed transcript are different cases. Keep the order details available when contacting Transcript Services instead of immediately creating another paid request.
Sending a record to UT is a different task
Applicants and current students submitting coursework to UT should follow Admissions’ transcript instructions. Those instructions depend on student type and distinguish official records from screenshots, advising reports and other substitutes. Admissions does not accept transcripts by ordinary email.
If the issue is an unposted course or a degree requirement, resolve that record question before treating a new transcript order as the repair. The IDA guide explains the degree-progress check; the AP-credit guide explains why a qualifying score may still need a petition.
