McCombs acceptance rate: the official 9% figure

McCombs publishes a BBA acceptance rate. Keep its year and applicant population attached before using it to plan an application.

McCombs reports a 9% BBA acceptance rate under its 2025 admissions statistics. That is the school’s published figure, rather than an estimate assembled from an entering-class size. It is historical context for the undergraduate business program, not a measured Fall 2027 admission rate. Official BBA admissions page

Use the rate to understand selectivity, then build a complete application for the correct entry term. The decisions that matter are whether you are applying to the BBA, Canfield Business Honors, an MBA or a transfer route, and whether your application names the intended program.

Method & limits

Checked October 26, 2026. McCombs labels its rounded 9% BBA figure as 2025 admissions statistics. The source does not display the underlying counts or residency breakdown beside it. Fall 2027 application dates are a separate, current-cycle checklist.

What the 9% figure tells you

The McCombs page supplies a rounded percentage without applicant and admit counts alongside it. Retain that precision. Writing 9.00%, reverse-engineering an exact number of offers or splitting it into Texas and non-Texas rates would add information the displayed statistic does not provide.

An acceptance rate normally compares offers with applications. Enrollment counts answer a later question: how many people arrived. If a hypothetical program admitted 900 of 10,000 applicants and enrolled 600, its admission rate would be 9%; dividing enrollees by applicants would instead produce 6%. Those are invented counts to illustrate the distinction, not McCombs data.

This is why a new estimate based on class size should not displace a school-reported rate. When another page gives a different percentage, check its cohort, numerator and source before comparing the numbers.

McCombs and UT Austin have different denominators

UT’s 2025–26 Common Data Set reports 20,154 first-year admits from 90,690 applicants for Fall 2025. That produces approximately 22.22% for the university-wide cohort. The UT acceptance-rate guide shows the calculation and source categories. Official Common Data Set

QuestionRelevant figure or sourceWhat it does not establish
How selective was the McCombs BBA?School-reported 9%, 2025A residency-specific or personal probability
How selective was UT overall?Calculated 22.22%, Fall 2025 first-year cohortThe rate for an individual college or major
What are my transfer chances?Separate internal or external transfer requirementsA transfer rate inferred from BBA freshman figures
What about Canfield BHP or an MBA?That program’s own admissions informationAn honors or graduate rate inferred from 9%

The BBA percentage and university calculation use different populations. Neither describes an individual applicant’s chance of admission.

Does top-5% automatic admission include McCombs?

UT lists a top-5% automatic-admission threshold for eligible Summer/Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 applicants. Its review process also considers major selection. Qualifying for admission to the university does not establish an offer to the business major. Check the full eligibility rules for your situation. UT review and automatic-admission rules

Treat McCombs as a competitive program even when your university admission route is secure. A strong application should make your actual academic interests and experience legible; a headline percentage cannot show which part of your record an evaluator will consider most persuasive.

UT identifies academic preparation, class rank, tests, achievements, work and service, essays and the competitiveness of the requested major among its review factors. There is no basis here for declaring a particular SAT score a guaranteed McCombs offer.

Build the Fall 2027 application around the official checklist

McCombs directs prospective BBA applicants to select Unspecified Business (200400) as their first-choice major on the Common App. Its page says the BBA admits for fall entry and that Canfield Business Honors has additional application requirements. An honors application should therefore have its own checklist.

For Summer/Fall admission, UT currently lists October 15 for Early Action applications and October 22 for supporting materials. The regular application deadline is December 1, with supplemental materials due December 10. Its current page places Early Action decisions or deferrals by January 15, 2027, and decisions for deferred and regular applicants by February 15, 2027. Track submission and completion separately. After applying, use MyStatus to resolve outstanding items; uploading a document is useful only if it satisfies the item required by the appropriate deadline. Recheck the live checklist before submitting, particularly if applying in a later cycle.

Plan alternatives you would actually want to complete

An applicant considering another UT major should evaluate that degree on its own merits. Starting elsewhere at UT does not convert an uncertain McCombs offer into a promised future transfer. The maintained McCombs internal-transfer guide follows that distinct process and its dated requirements.

For a non-business major who wants business coursework, the Business Foundations Minor guide explains a separate credential. It is not a BBA admission route. Compare the degree, curriculum and cost you would accept if a later change never happened.

Use McCombs’ program-specific rankings to investigate academic fit, then compare the UT attendance budget with your actual offer. A useful application list contains programs you can explain, afford and willingly attend.
